Lisa Cerullo-Belinn, PhD, MHS, LCSW will present, "Trauma and Addiction: Working with individuals with PTSD and Substance Use Disorders".
This presentation will focus on the intersection between trauma and substance misuse, describe trauma-informed care in the context of substance use disorders, identify screening and assessment tools and procedures, and introduce interventions for social workers working with individuals who are diagnosed as co-occurring, with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD).
- Dissemination of information on the neurobiology of addiction and trauma.
- Exploration of the relationship between trauma and addiction.
- Provision of a knowledge base that social workers can use to identify and assess clients who are using substances.
- Recommendation of empirically supported interventions for clients with co-occurring disorders of PTSD and SUD.
